Self Study

Intention:

The intention of this section is to discuss an area of growth and learning that is of current
significance. As such, I will be updating this page regularly, offering a new nugget to enrich
your adventurous approach to self-care and evolution.

Stream of Current Significance:

The quest for Unification through an understanding of
Polarity

We have nothing to fear, not even fear itself.  Fear is a
teacher that allows us to become aware of our reactions.  Every action has a reaction, and thus swings
the pendulum of life.  To stop this
pendulum of reactivity and find the field of dynamic balance at the center, we
must become responsible for our reactions.
Responsibility and reactivity are not the same thing.  Responsibility is the ability to respond skillfully
to a stimulus, whereas reactivity is an unconscious, instinctual reaction that
through memories of past experience and our most basic genetic coding drives us
towards pleasure and away from pain.
Without acceptance and understanding of the impermanence of both states,
we will continue to swing from one end to the other.

Grounding Nugget:

To understand this concept in your daily life, open your
awareness to the presence of polarity.
Polarity exists in our lives in all possible arenas from how we
communicate, to our race, gender, sexual expression, religion, family dynamics,
political position, and cultural perspective.
There is a powerful investment in maintaining a sense of polarity that
is ultimately unhelpful towards our evolution as humans – it puts power in the
hands of those maintaining the polarity, and imprisons those who fear wavering
from their polarized beliefs and experiences.
But polarity also has a light side, a divine purpose, through
understanding and experiencing the extremes of polarity we are able to develop
a diverse spectrum of possibilities.  The
catch is to approach this spectrum honestly and fearlessly so that you can
discover where your area of balance is.
Your own balanced perspective and experience on this spectrum will come
from listening to your Self, your own voice that resides in your gut, from
fearlessly stepping outside of what you are told is your truth to carry.  Can you do this?  Can you guide yourself into evolving into a
being with the ability to respond skillfully to a world of stimulus?  Can you see your own swinging pendulum of
reactivity compassionately and bravely for what it is?   Can you
hear the voice of fear and the voice of craving as an indication that the
pendulum swings?  Can you see the “other”
as a teacher along your path instead of as an adversary?
